Admissions Coordinator Sarah Clabo at Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge leads residents on an activity once a week that involves art, called Create. Recently, resident activities were focused on the recognition of Veteran’s Day. Residents used tissue paper to make poppies after learning that they are used to symbolize honor and to remember veterans on Veteran’s Day and Rememberance (Memorial) Day. This is traditionally done because of the famous Poem “Flander’s Field” by John McCrae. The lovely poppies made were displayed in the Lodge Great Room.
Residents and staff also took time to honor and remember veterans by decorating a star and writing the names of friends and loved ones who serve, or have served in the military. Those who did not have anyone who served close to them, still had the opportunity to decorate a star. Residents and staff spent some time brainstorming and talking about words that made us think about Veteran’s Day to include on the stars instead of names. In conclusion, Sarah decided to decorate the Daily Activity Board with some sketches and added the residents’ stars. With their beautiful, thoughtful creations fixed to the edge of the board everyone’s star could be seen throughout the day.
